More War Mongering
"War is the health of the state."
Randolph Bourne
The election of Obama was just what the neocons needed to continue their war mongering. When it was Bush's war(s), the anti-war left was active, now that it's Obama's war(s), the anti-war left is completely silent. Turns out all they really wanted was a Democrat party.
When Clinton was in office, the Republicans opposed his actions in Bosnia. "Humble foreign policy," and "no nation building." These were the phrases that suckered many of us into voting for George W. Bush, who turned around and did the complete opposite.
Every six months, there are calls anew to bomb Iran. We won't take military action off the table says the President (doesn't seem to matter if there's an R or D beside his name.)
And they can get away with this war mongering because in large, the American people are ignorant, uneducated and gullible. The media (from Fox to MSNBC) just report events without any of the backstory, accepting without question the facts as told to us by the White House and the Pentagon.
Sure, the President of Iran is a Holocaust denier, and I don't doubt that he wasn't really the legitimate victor in their recent election, but name the last time Iran has invaded another country?
Here is some good reading/viewing on this subject and some perspectives that you won't generally find in the news on all of this:
Another War in the Works - by Paul Craig Roberts
Does anyone remember all the lies that they were told by President Bush and the "mainstream media" about the grave threat to America from weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? These lies were repeated endlessly in the print and TV media despite the reports from the weapons inspectors, who had been sent to Iraq, that no such weapons existed.
The weapons inspectors did an honest job in Iraq and told the truth, but the mainstream media did not emphasize their findings. Instead, the media served as a Ministry of Propaganda, beating the war drums for the US government.
Now the whole process is repeating itself. This time the target is Iran.
Lew Rockwell blogged about this earlier today: this video really makes some great points on Iran and who the real aggressor is here.
Glenn Greenwald Making Sense on Iran:
Interesting: Senior official in Bush domestic propaganda program remains Obama’s Pentagon spokesman
A key senior figure in a Bush administration covert Pentagon program, which used retired military analysts to produce positive wartime news coverage, remains in the same position today as a chief Obama Defense Department spokesman and the agency’s head of all media operations.

Ron Paul and Iran - June 4, 2007
Go and watch the bottom video on this page for a primer on why Iran hates the United States. (hint: we stuck our nose in their business one too many times).
