Nothing Lasts
You know, before the season began, I was expecting a slow, but steady improvement with the 2008 edition of the Alabama Crimson Tide. 10 wins for the year was a goal that was realistic. I figured we'd drop a game to 2 of the 3 of Clemson, UGA, or LSU.
Last weekend's SEC Championship stuck with me for a few days. Obnoxious Florida fans (and other rival schools of ours) will say that we got dominated, but if you watch that game, it's obvious that we're mighty close to a championship caliber program again. The difference in the game was mistakes, and a ridiculously talented QB for Florida. I think that we could've overcome the QB had we not made the mistakes. Special teams and untimely penalties were the difference between first and second place in the SEC. Like Bart said on his blog the other day, I'm totally against having rings made proclaiming us SEC Western Division Champions. There is no glory in winning the Western Division. There is only SEC Champion and National Champion, nothing less.
Last Winter, there were rumors that Saban was considering moving all of the returning juniors to the scout team and going with a total youth movement. Good to see that was neither true, nor necessary. You don't get a true legacy at Alabama without a championship ring, but I think that this team will long be remembered for turning things around for Alabama. ROLL TIDE ROLL!
