Now what?

A mishmash of thoughts on religion, life, technology, and whatnot.

I’m not a PC

Well if Neocon Ben Ferguson is a PC, I'm definitely a Mac.

The Seinfeld ads were a disaster, but these are an improvement. The problem is that sure, a lot of people use PC's, but do they harbor the same affinity for them and for the brand that Mac users have? Was that phenomenon created by the Apple ads? Or just reflected by it?

And by being so referential, are they not reinforcing the message of the Apple ads?

This gives Apple something to lampoon in their next ads. We'll see what they come up with.

  1. Totally off topic here, but am I the only person that didn’t realize there is no gas? There was literally no station that still had gas today in Atlanta or surrounding areas. I actually ran out and had to leave my car in a parking lot and take Marta home. People were driving into metro area from the burbs to buy what was apparently the last remaining gas. Supposedly more is on the way but it was really scary to see all stations with no gas whatsoever.

  2. There was a panic late last week in Nashville where everyone bought up all the gas. Atlanta may have had the same thing going on.

Was one of those self-fulfilling prophecies. If everyone believes there will be no gas and immediately goes and hoards it, then there definitely will not be enough.

  3. Turns out this was real. It’s been over a week now and gas stations have been continually out here in Atlanta. Literally maybe 1 in 20 stations has gas and those have lines out of the station and down the road. All week long. There may be a small truth to a piece of it being consumer panic driven but not for an entire week. They are still trying to spin it and blame the consumer though here but I am seeing many people not coming to work because they have no gas and people walking down the road carrying gas cans because they ran out. I really hope it lasts through this weekend because there is the Ga/AL game, a golf tournament, and a few other items bringing people into Atlanta so people (other internet postings)won’t be so smug about how its the consumer’s fault. As of lunch today there was no change that I see at any gas station abnd the owner of the gas distribution (tankers) here is saying it is bad and asking the govenor to cancel games this weekend.

  4. Yeah, I read about the distributor asking to cancel the games. Will make for an interesting situation for Bama fans headed that way.

But that doesn’t mean that it’s not still possible that this is a lingering effect of the panic and government intervention. The initial panic has created a cycle that it’s hard to get out of. Market forces should have driven up the price of gas because of the shortage on the market. This would discourage people from hoarding it (panic), but if you do that, the government will come after you for gouging. And higher prices would have attracted more supply to the market, but with sellers afraid to raise the price in a shortage, there’s no incentive for additional supply to come on the market.
