A musical post
Tapes 'n Tapes - The Loon - Good indie rock. Sort of a Pavement kind of vibe. For fans of Wolf Parade, Pavement, Built to Spill
Cracker - Greenland
Finally, a new Cracker album that I can get behind. I just didn't care for Forever, and Countrysides, their cover album of country songs just wasn't up my alley. If it were Hank Williams covers or something, that would be fine, but it was more Hank Jr. than Hank. This album is back to form though. Not all of the songs are winners, but for fans of David Lowery, this is a good one to pick up. The band also recently re-recorded all of their hits and released "Greatest Hits Redux" in response to Virgin Records release of "Get on with It: The Best of Cracker". Amazingly, they managed to recapture the original energy and feel of all the original cuts. There are some missing gems that didn't make the cut, but it's a good release.
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife - Not my favorite Decemberists record, but worth a listen. They seem to have embraced Prog rock a little bit on this one. It's not as folksy and whimsical as previous efforts.
Roman Numerals - Part of the New Wave revival to a degree. I hear a little bit of the Cure at times in their sound. For fans of: The Cure, Franz Ferdinand
The Stills - Without Feathers - Amazon says that the new Stills album channels Big Country... too funny. I can hear that. Apparently there was a major line-up change. Still there are some solid tracks here. For fans of: The Alarm, Big Country.
The Veils - Nux Vomica - The Veils sort of remind me of Live, back when they were relevant.. This is what Live should have evolved into. The quality varies a bit on this one "Advice For Young Mothers To Be" really reminds me of the "Monster Mash" when I listen to it.
