Now what?

A mishmash of thoughts on religion, life, technology, and whatnot.

Senior High Camp 1, Sumatanga, 2006

It's going to take a while to finish this posting, so, here it is, Saturday night and I'm starting it... it may be Tuesday before I finish it.

Thoughts about the week. WOW. It was just incredible. It was one of the most impressive groups assembled that I have seen since the last Peace Camp. The team had some nicely seasoned, yet new to team folks to help anchor a lean, yet deep team. Having older folks like Franklin and Lauren around was just great. Franklin, I was really impressed with your patience in dealing with some of the campers. We had a great group of counselors. It's good to see some folks close to my own age taking the reins again. We had some lean years where there were a lot of folks in their very early 20's leading small groups. They're great people, but it's not their time yet. It's our time. Camille: Camille and I must each have half a brain, because together we made a really powerful team. Given the lower number of team members this year, I think having a duo in charge was a must, I just don't see how I could have done it alone. We had some foundations for most of what we wanted to do in place before camp ever started, but there were some moments of divine inspiration that really made programs shine. Figuring out how to handle interpersonal AND world issues in the same night... divine intervention? Maybe. When you are a designer, you live for those days when you feel that creative spark. When things start coming together and the ideas just start flowing. When you get one of those days, you get on this high and you just go with it. The work becomes absolute joy. Those days don't come but maybe once every few months. I had a lot of those days this past week.

Sunday start, Friday finish: I think that it was a good change of pace. Monday was always a wasted day. Nothing of substance happened for several hours. Starting Sunday afternoon was a good way to kick things off. We go straight into a meal/program. Ending on Friday was a little weird, Camille and I weren't too sure on how to handle the program for that one, but now that we have one under our belt, we'll be a little more prepared for it.

I think I'm going to stop for now and do a recap of the programs in another posting, maybe during our 4 hour flight to San Fran on Wednesday. I have a lot to do before we get out of town. Just talked with Jamie and got her consent to get a Macbook to donate to the Sr. High/ Jr. High program. I need to get that, configure it, and get it shipped out to camp so that they can have it before next week. It's a busy week.
